T-Mobile adds customers

In the first quarter, T-Mobile’s (TMUS) net customer base grew by 1.65 million and the company marked a 24th consecutive quarter of net customer additions over 1.0 million. The company’s strong momentum doesn’t seem to be slowing down. In the first quarter, its branded postpaid phone subscriber net additions rose YoY (year-over-year) to 656,000 from 617,000, mainly due to record-low churn. T-Mobile was the industry leader in postpaid phone customer net additions for a 21st consecutive quarter.

Peer comparison

In the quarter ended March 31, AT&T (T) added 80,000 postpaid phone net customers, while Sprint (S) lost 189,000. Postpaid handset customers are of significant value to mobile operators. Smartphone users are the most lucrative because they tend to use more data.
