Irwin D. Simon
Irwin D. Simon emerged as the key figure for Aphria (APHA) amid all the negative press the company got late in December. Aphria appointed Simon as the independent chair to its board to do damage control from short sellers’ criticism on the company’s Latin American acquisitions.
Simon was the chair of the independent committee charged with the responsibility of assessing short sellers’ claims on Aphria’s Latin American acquisitions. The committee concluded that there were conflicts of interest but also used the opportunity to strengthen Aphria’s corporate governance. Following the recent Health Canada approval of additional cultivation capacity, Simon stated, “We are ready to hit the ground running and look forward to alleviating industry-wide supply constraints with our greatly expanded production capacity and sophisticated, proprietary automation technology that will ensure Aphria remains at the forefront of cannabis cultivation and innovation.”
