Amazon Looks to Expand in the Smart Home Market with Lennar

Amazon partners with Lennar

Amazon (AMZN) is partnering with homebuilder Lennar (LEN) to bring its home automation products powered by its voice assistant to Lennar smart homes. The tie-up will not only help Lennar sell homes and products but also help both companies sell their services.

Lennar is also offering Amazon tech services for 90 days with the purchase of a Lennar smart home. Amazon offers smart home tech installation and provides services ranging from housecleaning to home improvement.

Amazon products in Lennar model homes

Lennar’s smart homes have built-in Wi-Fi, which should help Amazon to showcase its wide range of home automation products and attract customers to its platform, thereby generating more revenue. Other than Alexa-powered smart home products, Lennar homes will also feature the Echo range of smart speakers, Dash Buttons, and Blink’s wireless security camera.

Amazon’s smart home products will also include Ring devices. Amazon’s acquisition of smart doorbell maker Ring for over $1 billion was one of its most expensive purchases, and it was indicative of the e-commerce giant’s focus on the growing home automation segment.

Rivals in the home automation segment

The latest deal will likely reinforce Amazon’s dominant position in the market, where it’s facing competition from the likes of Alphabet’s (GOOGL) Google, Apple, Alibaba (BABA), and Facebook (FB).

Recently, Facebook announced that consumers can shop for home services professionals through Facebook Marketplace by connecting with existing home improvement portals such as Handy, HomeAdvisor, and Porch.
