What Could Boost VMware Stock in 2018?

In this series, we’ve discussed VMware’s (VMW) recent news and looked at how its offerings performed in fiscal 4Q18. In that quarter, VMware launched VMware Cloud Foundation 2.3 (the latest version of its integrated hybrid cloud platform) and VMware Pulse IoT[1.Internet of Things] Center, VMware’s first IoT offering.

We’ve also discussed the company’s strategic partnerships with Amazon’s (AMZN) AWS (Amazon Web Services), IBM (IBM), Pivotal, and Google (GOOG) to strengthen its position in the multi-cloud and hybrid cloud space. Last month, VMware announced the acquisition of CloudCoreo and CloudVelox to complement its offerings in this space.

A leader in the hyperconverged infrastructure space

As the above presentation shows, VMware was named as a leader in Gartner’s February 2018 Magic Quadrant for Hyperconverged Infrastructure. VMware’s leadership in HCI could also help it in the hybrid cloud space, as HCI enables easy storage and data management across public cloud and private servers. This capability is crucial for companies adopting hybrid approaches to the cloud. All of these developments could put VMware stock back on track in 2018.
