How MedReleaf’s Capacity Expansion Plans Compare to Its Peers’




MedReleaf (MEDFF) has all of its facilities and expansion projects based in Ontario, Canada (HMMJ)

However, unlike Aphria (APHQF), which is reliant on a single facility, MedReleaf has a diversified facility base similar to those of Canopy Growth (WEED) and Aurora Cannabis (ACB). Let’s look at it in more detail.

Capacity expansion

MedReleaf currently has a completed facility of 55,000 square feet in Markham, Ontario. In addition, the company will develop its Bradford, Ontario, facility with a total of 211,000 square feet of capacity in two phases. 

As of the date of this writing, Phase 1 of the Bradford facility is complete, and together with the Markham facility, it has a cultivation capacity of 17,000 kilograms per year. With the completion of Phase 2, the cumulative total cultivation capacity will be 266,000 square feet of capacity with a total cultivation capacity of 35,000 kilograms annually.

In addition to these facilities, the company acquired 1 million square feet of capacity in Exeter, Ontario, on February 26, 2018. This facility is currently a greenhouse infrastructure, and it will be retrofitted to produce cannabis. The first harvest is expected to take place by the end of 2018. After completion, this facility will have a total production capacity 105,000 kilograms annually, and together with the Markham and Bradford facilities, MedReleaf will achieve a total capacity of 1.3 million square feet and produce 140,000 kilograms of cannabis each year.
