North America dominates the DBaaS space
Earlier in this series, we discussed Oracle’s (ORCL) DBaaS performance and expected growth in the cloud database and DBaaS space. According to MarketsandMarkets, North America has the largest market share in the cloud billing space.
The dominant presence of large enterprises has enabled North America to procure a leading position in the global cloud database and DBaaS space, as stated by TMR Research. North America could be closely followed by Europe.
In the future, Asia-Pacific is expected to aggressively adopt cloud database and DBaaS offerings in the near future. Technology advancement and enhancements could push SMB’s focus toward cloud database adoption, helping this geography gain traction.
India is one of the fastest-growing markets in the cloud
Oracle’s recent announcement that it would open a data center in India (EPI), which should allow customers to “build and move workloads to an India-based cloud,” is strategic.
In India, the public cloud services market is estimated to grow at a CAGR[1. compound annual growth rate] of 38% to become a $1.3 billion market this year, as reported by Gartner. This expected growth makes it one of the fastest-growing cloud markets in the world. This explains why Microsoft (MSFT), Amazon (AMZN), and Intel (INTC) also chose India for their data centers.
Within the cloud space, IaaS (infrastructure-as-a-service) is expected to have the highest growth, followed by SaaS (software-as-a-service) and PaaS (platform-as-a-service). IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS are expected to have growth rates of 49.2%, 33.0%, and 32.1%, respectively, in 2017.
