Earlier in this series, we discussed how mounting competition in the cloud space has impacted Salesforce (CRM). However, there are still a couple of areas in the cloud where Salesforce is a leader.

In late March 2017, Salesforce announced that its Commerce Cloud was named a leader by Forrester Research’s The Forrester Wave report. Salesforce Commerce Cloud is now known as Commerce Cloud Einstein. It received the highest possible score for market presence.

Commerce Cloud boosted by Demandware acquisition

Salesforce is based on the company’s acquisition of Demandware. Demandware offers cloud software for building e-commerce websites. The Demandware acquisition was not only Salesforce’s largest to date but also marked Salesforce’s entry into the e-commerce space.

Salesforce Commerce Cloud enables consumer companies to track customers and enhances users’ online shopping experience. Commerce Cloud aids marketers in planning campaigns. It also adds commerce functions to Salesforce’s portfolio of offerings, which mostly work on a SaaS (software-as-a-service) model.

Salesforce Einstein features are integrated into Commerce Cloud, which adds to its appeal. Salesforce claims Einstein is “the world’s first comprehensive artificial intelligence platform for CRM.” Later in this series, we’ll discuss how Einstein could shape Salesforce’s growth prospects.

According to Salesforce Commerce Cloud CEO Jeff Barnett, “with Commerce Cloud Einstein, brands have the fastest path to unified commerce, all powered by Einstein AI to deliver intelligent experiences for shoppers across digital and in-store.”
