Steel Companies’ 4Q15 earnings

Steel stocks have continued their downslide in early 2016. Steel companies have carried last year’s negative momentum into the current year as well. There was no respite for investors as steel companies resumed their downslide from the first trading day of the year itself.

Earnings season

Steel companies’ earnings season will kick off next week. Steel Dynamics will report is 4Q15 financial results on January 25 after the market closes, and it will hold the earnings conference call on January 26.

AK Steel’s earnings are also expected on January 26 before the market opens. Nucor’s 4Q15 earnings are expected on January 28.

Series overview

Looking at steel companies’ 4Q15 guidance, the quarter could turn out to be the most challenging since the global financial crisis of 2008–2009. To be sure, the operating environment for the US (DIA) has been challenging for the most part of 2015. However, the steel industry’s woes were intensified in 4Q15.
