Spotify is testing Spotify Duo, targeted at couples, in Ireland
Music streaming giant Spotify (SPOT) has started testing a new subscription called Premium Duo in Ireland. Premium Duo offers two Premium subscriptions at a cost of 12.49 euros per month. One subscription costs 9.99 euros per month, so this is an attractive deal.
The deal could be great for couples, as a Spotify Family subscription (which can be used by six family members) costs 14.99 euros per month in comparison. Couples who are fond of listening to music may prefer using Premium Duo rather than sharing an account, which is against Spotify’s terms of service. Spotify allows you to use its service on only one device at a time.
Premium Duo is also cheaper than the Family subscription and just 2.5 euros per month more expensive than a single Premium account.
Spotify hopes that Duo will be as popular as its Family subscription
Duo will allow both users to receive separate music recommendations based on their tastes, which will improve the user experience compared to sharing an account.
The Family subscription is already incredibly popular. Premium Duo could also be popular once it rolls out globally.
Spotify’s monthly active user count increased 29.4% YoY (year-over-year) to 207 million in the fourth quarter. Its Premium subscriber base, from which it makes the bulk of its revenue, increased 35.2% YoY to 96 million in the quarter.
Spotify’s subscriber growth remains robust despite stiff competition from tech giants. However, the music streaming giant expects its revenue growth to slow this year.
