American Express’s Recent Changes in Leadership

Chief diversity officer

On March 8, 2018, American Express (AXP) announced that Sonia Cargan will become its chief diversity officer. The role is intended to make sure the company remains people’s preferred option. In addition, Cargan will make sure the company is successful by creating an environment in which everyone works as a team and ensuring that the teams are performing up to their full potential.

Management for American Express believes Cargan’s experience will be valuable to the company. Cargan said she will be following the principle of inclusivity, allowing her to attract talent from a broader perspective. She added that at American Express, teams are motivated to carry out their tasks effectively.

New member of the board of directors

On March 13, 2018, American Express announced that it has appointed Christopher D. Young as a member of the board of directors. Young has been at a number of senior-level positions in his career and serves as CEO of McAfee, a cybersecurity company.

American Express has a dividend yield of 1.4% on an LTM (last-12-month) basis. Peers (XLF) Fidelity National Information Services (FIS), Western Union (WU), and Ally Financial (ALLY) have dividend yields of 1.1%, 3.4%, and 1.4%, respectively, on an LTM basis.
