Amazon has been improving Alexa constantly
Amazon (AMZN) has been very bullish on its digital assistant, Alexa, which the company has been improving constantly.
At its re:MARS conference in Las Vegas, Amazon said that it’s making talking with Alexa more natural by enabling more effortless interactions. Users will soon be able to talk constantly with the digital assistant without having to say “Alexa” every time.
Alexa will be able to guess next actions and will be able to switch easily to the next Alexa skill. The e-commerce giant said the new and improved Alexa will be available in the coming months. Amazon said that Alexa has become 20% more accurate in understanding user commands over the last few months.
Amazon still has the lead in the smart speaker segment
While Amazon has been relentless in its goal of making Alexa ubiquitous, the company hasn’t monetized it yet. However, Alexa could be a major source of revenue for the company in the future.
Amazon is still the leader in the smart speaker segment and is still seeing robust growth in its Alexa-powered Echo smart speakers. According to a recent report by Canalys, Amazon shipped 4.6 million smart speakers during the first quarter of 2019, up 84.7% from the same quarter last year.
