Netflix saw blockbuster subscriber growth in Q1
Netflix (NFLX) continues to reel in millions of subscribers. The video streaming giant has now added a stunning 18.4 million paid subscribers globally in the last two quarters. While it faces increasing competition, it is by far the biggest video streaming service in the world. The company now has nearly 149 million subscribers.
The company said in its letter to shareholders that it plans to begin testing a top 10 list for its subscribers in the United Kingdom. Netflix will let those subscribers to see which content is currently the most popular across its service. The top 10 list will be updated weekly, and each genre will get have its own top ten list.
Netflix wants to make it easier for subscribers to discover quality content
CEO Reed Hastings said in the letter, “For those who want to watch what others are watching, this may make choosing titles even easier,”. This move will make it easier for subscribers to discover quality content.
Viewers still won’t be able to see how many viewers have seen a particular content. However, the company has started sharing the number of users who have watched popular shows or movies in the last couple of quarters. The latest move is also a subtle way in which Netflix is displaying which of its content is doing well.
The company said it will decide in a “few months” whether to expand the test or to end it.
