Netflix Has Revealed Its Viewership Numbers Again

Netflix has started revealing its originals programs’ viewership numbers

Previously, Netflix (NFLX) never divulged how many viewers had watched its original movies or TV shows. However, that has changed in the last two quarters.

The company disclosed earlier this year that as many as 80 million households—representing a large proportion of its subscriber base—had viewed its thriller Birdbox, starring Sandra Bullock.

Netflix estimated earlier this year that its original shows You and Sex Education, which featured young actors, had reached 40 million viewers within four weeks of their releases. The company’s Spanish series Elite was watched by 20 million households within the first four weeks of its release. Netflix defines a “viewing household” as an account with which a subscriber has watched a minimum of 70% of a movie or episode.

Netflix’s popular originals are being viewed by several million subscribers

Recently, Netflix announced that its original series Umbrella Academy, which is based on the comic book by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, had been viewed by a solid 45 million households within the first four weeks of its launch.

The action movie Triple Frontier, starring Ben Affleck, was watched by 52 million households within the first four weeks of its launch, while The Highwaymen was watched by over 40 million households.

We don’t know exactly why Netflix has been revealing these details lately, but these figures could indicate that the viewing time on its platform is increasing. This insight is critical, as it suggests that the company could profit even if its subscriber growth flattens later on.

Netflix could further hike rates depending on how much subscribers like its service. Netflix’s increasing amount of Emmy-winning original content proves that its quality is top notch.
