Capital International Investors is the largest institutional investor in Enbridge (ENB) stock. Capital International Investors holds 5.3% of Enbridge’s outstanding shares. Capital World Investors holds 5.0% and RBC Global Asset Management holds 3.1% of Enbridge’s outstanding shares. The top ten institutional investors own ~26% of Enbridge’s outstanding shares.

As the above table shows, eight of the ten largest investors added to their positions in Enbridge in the fourth quarter of 2018. Purchases of 18.4 million shares by Fidelity Investments Canada and 16.6 million shares by the Vanguard Group were among the largest buy transactions. Caisse de Dépôt et Placement du Québec sold 4.4 million Enbridge shares in the fourth quarter.

OMERS Administration sold 5.9 million Enbridge shares in the fourth quarter. Overall, the top institutional investors’ sentiments for the stock were positive in the fourth quarter, which the positive position changes indicate.

Among the ~60% Enbridge shares held by institutions, ~29% are held in the United States and 26% in Canada. Enbridge forms ~3.9% of the First Trust North American Energy Infrastructure Fund (EMLP) and ~8.9% of the Global X MLP & Energy Infrastructure ETF (MLPX).
