Last week, Senator Cory Booker reintroduced the revised version of his previously introduced Marijuana Justice Act, which seeks to legalize marijuana at the federal level. Senator Booker had previously introduced the Marijuana Justice Act on August 1, 2017.

Several candidates that have announced their bid for theUS 2020 presidential election have shown support for legalizing cannabis at the federal level. Senator Kamala Harris, who also announced her 2020 presidential bid, supports legalizing marijuana at the federal level. In her tweet showing support for Senator Booker’s Marijuana Justice Act, she said that it was a “smart thing to do.” The US is certainly warming up to the idea of legalizing cannabis, as is evidenced by the recent move to legalize hemp in the US.
Marijuana is becoming an important platform for the US 2020 election, and its roots appear to stem from what happened in Canada’s last election. Justin Trudeau, the current Canadian Prime Minister, had legalization of marijuana for recreational purpose as one of his campaign promises. Three years after he assumed office, marijuana for recreational purposes was legalized throughout Canada. This move boosted companies (MJ) like Canopy Growth (WEED), Tilray (TLRY), Aphria (APHA), Aurora Cannabis (ACB), and others.
