Apple just announced its latest set of AirPods

On March 20, Apple (AAPL) announced the second generation of its wireless earbuds, AirPods. The newest version of Apple’s AirPods will come with the ability to activate its virtual assistant, Siri, by voice.

Apple said that the latest AirPods will increase talk time by one hour, as they’re powered by Apple’s own H1 chip. According to Apple, the new AirPods will connect to the iPhone faster than the old ones.

The latest AirPods, which come with the standard wired charging case, will cost $159, while the new Wireless Charging Case will cost $199.

Apple launched a new version of its hardware this week

Apple has clearly been pushing hard to enhance other parts of its business, as its core iPhone business is shrinking. Earlier this week, the tech giant launched the latest versions of the iPad Mini, the iPad Air, and its desktop, the iMac.

The latest set of AirPods could help boost its Wearables, Home, and Accessories segment, whose revenue rose 33.3% year-over-year to $7.3 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2019 (which ended in December 2018).

According to a recent report by the Wall Street Journal, AirPods are seen as a status symbol, especially by Millennials, who think that wearing AirPods make them look rich. Hence, the latest set of AirPods could have takers despite the steep price tag.
