Frontier’s capex plans for 2019
Frontier Communications (FTR) has been continuously spending on capex to improve its network. In the third quarter, the telecom company spent $329 million on capex with about 75% of its capex focused on productivity-enhancing and revenue-generating projects. Frontier spent $321 million on capex in the prior quarter and $268 million in the same period a year earlier. It has been spending to improve its network potential, expansion of gigabit broadband availability, as well as speed upgrades. For 2018, Frontier expects capex of $1.15 billion to $1.2 billion.
During the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference held earlier this month, Dan McCarthy, Frontier’s president and CEO, stated that the company expects capex to fall $50 million to $100 million in 2019.
Expected capex investments in 2018
By comparison, Windstream Holdings (WIN) is projected to spend in the range of $750 million to $800 million on capital expenditures in 2018. In comparison, Verizon (VZ) is expected to spend in the range of $16.6 billion to $17.0 billion on capex, while AT&T (T) expects net capex of $22 billion in 2018.
