Apple unveiled three new iPhone models this time
During its annual iPhone event on September 12, Apple (AAPL) announced that it will be launching three versions of the iPhone this year:
- the iPhone XS, the upgraded version of the iPhone X
- the iPhone XS Max, the bigger version of the iPhone XS
- iPhone XR, the budget iPhone
The basic versions of the phone will cost $999, $1,099, and $749, respectively. The iPhone XS and its bigger sibling will come with the more expensive and high-resolution OLED screens like the iPhone X. Meanwhile, the iPhone XR will have a liquid retina display.
iPhone XR seems to be a good value
The iPhone XR has a single camera, while the XS models have a dual camera. The XR also has a lower power and a lower resolution screen. However, there is a possibility that the iPhone XR might outsell the other two models, especially in price-sensitive markets. The iPhone XR seems to provide better value to an average user.
A return to LCD screens on the XR seems to be a step back. However, it makes sense as more people may be willing to buy it at $749 given that it is on the foundation of the iPhone X.
The iPhone XR, while still on the expensive side, could be Apple’s best chance to penetrate the fast-growing Asian smartphone markets.
