Verizon’s Strategy to Expand Its Wireless Business

Verizon Communications (VZ), the largest mobile operator in the United States, is expected to report strong third-quarter financial results. Wall Street analysts expect Verizon’s adjusted EPS to reach $1.19 in the third quarter, compared to $0.98 in the third quarter of 2017. In addition, the company’s Wireless segment is expected to demonstrate another solid quarter of subscriber growth in an intensely competitive environment.

In the second quarter, Verizon’s adjusted EPS increased ~25.0% YoY (year-over-year) to $1.20. Its earnings per share were ~5.3% higher than what Wall Street analysts had expected.

Verizon’s wireless priorities

Verizon’s (VZ) management has highlighted its new service and promotional offerings such as mix-and-match and Apple Music. The company noted that it’s confident in its ability to manage the momentum of its Wireless segment. 

One of Verizon’s top priorities is executing on fundamentals, which suggests maintaining a leadership position with respect to network performance and supporting subscriber relationships. The company expects to deliver on its earnings and revenue growth, and it plans to maintain an efficient capital allocation model.

Peers

In comparison, AT&T’s (T) adjusted EPS is expected to rise ~27.0% YoY to reach $0.94 in the third quarter, while T-Mobile’s (TMUS) EPS is expected to rise ~34.9% YoY to reach $0.85. Sprint (S) is expected to report an EPS loss of $0.01 in the fiscal second quarter, which ends in September.
