Netflix Has Been Making More Shows in Foreign Languages

Video streaming giant Netflix (NFLX) has been spending a lot of money to create original shows in foreign languages in an attempt to keep boosting its international subscriber growth. The company has been creating several original shows in Hindi recently to tap the fast-growing Indian market. In recent months, a number of Hindi shows have become quite popular in the country.

Movies like Love per Square Foot and Lust Stories have gained popularity in recent months. Plus, crime series Sacred Games and horror series Ghoul have gone viral. In fact, Netflix is ordering the second season of Sacred Games, which stars popular Bollywood actors like Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddique.

Netflix’s international subscriber growth has been robust

Netflix’s international subscribers have seen much faster growth than its domestic subscribers. Netflix’s US market has become saturated. Meanwhile, Netflix is seeing growth in relatively untapped fast-growing markets like India. The company has 72.7 million subscribers outside the US compared to 57.4 million domestically.

Netflix stock fell due to its second-quarter results. While the company’s revenue continued to see robust growth, its subscriber growth was below market expectations. The stock hasn’t quite recovered yet. It’s down 13% from its peak in July but has still almost doubled in 2018.
