Apple Set to Launch HomePod in Germany, Canada, and France

Apple set to launch HomePod in three new markets on June 18

Apple’s (AAPL) high-end smart speaker, HomePod, which costs $349 in the United States, is scheduled to be launched in a number of other markets in June. HomePod was launched in US markets in February. On June 18, the smart speaker is set to also be available in Canada, Germany, and France. It will be interesting to see if HomePod catches on in these markets.

Apple’s performance in the smart speaker market

Apple’s smart speaker had a relatively good first quarter. According to Strategy Analytics, Apple sold 600,000 HomePods, meaning it earned around $210 million from HomePod sales. That’s not a bad number considering HomePod was launched in the previous quarter. Apple did not release its HomePod sales figures.

Strategy Analytics and Canalys disagree on which company is leading the smart speaker market. According to the former, Amazon (AMZN) still has the lead, while Canalys suggests that Google (GOOG) has overtaken the market pioneer. However, both confer that Amazon has lost significant market share.
