Focus on expanding player base and engagement

Last year, Electronic Arts (EA) outlined its strategies for revenue growth. Driven by continued transformation, EA expanded its global player base and saw higher player engagement, live services, and subscriptions. EA’s revenue rose 10.2% YoY (year-over-year) in fiscal 2017 and 6.3% YoY in fiscal 2018.

In fiscal 2018, EA reported revenue above its guidance and expects its revenue growth to continue in fiscal 2019. EA CEO Andrew Wilson said, “Our revenue and earnings for Q4 and the full fiscal year 2018 were above our guidance given in January, and we are well positioned for continued growth in FY19. Our strategy is to deliver a collection of amazing games and content, wrapped in services, with new and innovative ways to reach an expanding global audience.”

Player base of 90 million for EA Sports

The EA Sports vertical, with a player base of ~90 million, is driven by FIFA, NFL, NBA LIVE, UFC, and NHL games. EA aims to leverage the popularity of major sports franchises for competitive gaming.

EA has claimed that ~18 million have played FIFA 18 and NFL 18, representing a 75% rise YoY. Viewership for these competitions continued to reach record levels on networks and digital channels.
