Battlefield and Sims
Electronic Arts (EA) aims to grow its audience reach across gaming platforms. Its Battlefield franchise has over 54 million players to date across Xbox (MSFT) PlayStation (SNE) platforms as well as PCs (personal computers). This franchise continues to attract players and is expected to drive engagement in fiscal 2019 as well.
EA’s Sims community has also attracted players across gaming platform, with over 80 million active PC and mobile players in fiscal 2018. EA has claimed that, since The Sims 4‘s launch in 2014, its player community has continued to grow. The Sims franchise has also grown its mobile engagement with Sims FreePlay and Sims Mobile.
Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes
According to EA, fiscal 2018 was its mobile portfolio’s strongest year ever. Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes continued to be one of the most played games and achieved high player satisfaction scores in fiscal 2018.
During EA’s fiscal 4Q18 earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson said, “We also helped players experience more games, including innovative new IP. Our EA Access and Origin Access subscriber totals continue to grow, and we have expanded Origin Access to include dozens of third-party titles in addition to EA’s PC portfolio.” EA is committed to regaining players’ trust after the Star Wars: Battlefront II debacle last year, where negative player reactions led to EA temporarily suspending microtransactions for the game.
