What Eurozone’s Key Economic Indicators Signal

Key economic indicators

Some important Eurozone indicators were released last week:

  • UK (EWU) inflation data
  • Eurozone (VGK) inflation data
  • the Eurozone ZEW economic sentiment index
  • the German (EWG) ZEW economic sentiment index
  • the German Ifo business climate index
  • the Eurozone consumer confidence index

After fluctuating dramatically, the Eurozone’s economy improved gradually between July 2016 and January 2018. However, in the past two months, major Eurozone economic indicators have shown some weakness. The iShares MSCI Eurozone ETF (EZU), which tracks the Eurozone’s economy, has fallen 1.9% in March 2018.

Series overview

In this series, we’ll analyze the Eurozone’s economic sentiment indexes’ performance so far in March 2018, as well as the German Ifo business climate index. We’ll also analyze Eurozone and UK inflation in February 2018. In the next part of this series, we’ll analyze the Eurozone ZEW economic sentiment index.
