Activision Blizzard’s (ATVI) Call of Duty was launched about 14 years ago and has been a favorite ever since. Call of Duty: WWII was the second world war game, after ATVI launched Call of Duty: World at War back in 2008.
Activision Blizzard’s Destiny 2 was the second-most popular game last year and was launched in September 2017. The game sold over 2 million copies across three platforms in North America.
Take-Two Interactive’s (TTWO) NBA 2K18 is the latest game in the NBA 2K franchise. This game was launched in September as well and has reportedly sold over 1.8 million copies in North America.
Madden NFL 18
Electronic Arts’ (EA) Madden NFL 18 took the fourth spot and continued to extend its dominance in the football genre. The game was launched in August and has sold 1.7 million copies in North America.
The other top games include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Grand Theft Auto V, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Star Wars: Battlefront II 2017, Super Mario Odyssey, and Mario Kart 8.
The worldwide gaming industry was expected to reach $109 billion by the end of 2017, according to research firm Newzoo, indicating a rise of almost 8% YoY (year-over-year). The gaming market in the United States is the second largest and was expected to reach $25 billion in revenues last year.
