Short interest in HAL and NOV

Short interest in Halliburton (HAL) as a percentage of its float was 2.5% on March 20, 2018. Since March 20, 2017, short interest in HAL has risen 34.7% while HAL’s stock price has fallen 10%. In comparison, short interest in National Oilwell Varco (NOV) as a percentage of its float was 7.8% on March 20, 2018. Short interest in NOV has risen ~9% since March 20, 2017, while its stock price has fallen ~6%.

Short interest in CLB and FMSA

Short interest in Core Laboratories (CLB) as a percentage of its float was 14.8% on March 20, 2018. Short interest in CLB has risen 11.4% in the past year, while its stock price has fallen 4% during this period.

Short interest in Fairmount Santrol Holdings (FMSA) as a percentage of its float was 11.7% on March 20, 2018. Short interest in Fairmount Santrol Holdings has risen 8% since March 20, 2017, while its stock price has fallen 41% during the same period. Investors’ negative bets on all the top five FCF generators have increased in the past year. Typically, more investors expect a stock’s price to fall if its short interest as a percentage of float increases.
