Let’s take a look now at Wall Street’s recommendations for the leading gainers in 2017 from the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) that we’ve been looking at in this series.

Recommendations for Valero Energy

As of January 23, 2018, Reuters reported 22 analysts covering Valero Energy (VLO) stock. Three of them have “strong buy” recommendations for the stock, and six have “buy” recommendations. There are 13 “hold” recommendations but no “sell” or “strong sell” recommendations.

The median price target for VLO is $98, which is ~1% lower than the closing price of $98.69 on January 23, 2018.

Recommendations for Marathon Petroleum

As of January 23, 2018, Reuters reported 19 analysts with recommendations for Marathon Petroleum (MPC). Six of them have “strong buy” recommendations for the stock. Eight have “buy” recommendations, and five have “hold” recommendations. There are no “sell” or “strong sell” ratings for the stock.

Currently, 76% of Wall Street analysts rate Andeavor (ANDV) a “strong buy” or a “buy,” and 24% rate it a “hold.” There are no “sell” or “strong sell” ratings for the stock.

The median price target for ANDV is $136, which is ~15% higher than the closing price of $118.62 on January 23, 2018.

Recommendations for Cabot Oil & Gas

As of January 23, 2018, Reuters reported 28 analysts with recommendations for Cabot Oil & Gas (COG) stock. Five of them have “strong buy” recommendations, 13 have “buy” recommendations, and nine have “hold” recommendations for the stock. There is one “sell” and no “strong sell” ratings for COG.
