CVR Partners

CVR Partners (UAN), the MLP involved in nitrogen fertilizer production—including UAN (urea ammonium nitrate) and ammonia, was the top MLP loser in the week ending January 26. The partnership fell 7.1% last week. CVR Partners’ recent weakness could be due to weakness in ammonia and urea prices.

Alon USA Partners

Alon USA Partners (ALDW), a downstream MLP, was the second-highest MLP loser last week—it lost 4.5%. Alon USA Partners’ recent weakness could be due to strong crude oil prices. High crude oil prices directly impact downstream companies’ operating margins. Despite the recent weakness, Alon USA Partners has risen 74.3% during the past year.

Teekay LNG Partners

Teekay LNG Partners (TGP), a midstream MLP involved in LNG (liquefied natural gas) shipping, regasification, and liquefaction, was the third-highest MLP loser last week—it lost 3.6%. The partnership has gained 11.9% in the past year. For a recent update on US LNG carriers, read LNG Carrier Stocks: Analysts’ Recommendations before 4Q17 Results.
