Legendary investor Ray Dalio has an optimistic view on the US market (SPX-INDEX) as well as on emerging markets (EEM). In the above parts, we discussed his latest view on the US equity market and his firm’s largest holdings in 3Q17.

In this part, we’ll look at the Bridgewater Associates’ top buys in 3Q17. The top buys includes the iShares Core MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (IEMG), the SPDR Gold Trust ETF (GLD), the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT), the iShares JP Morgan USD Em Mkts Bd ETF (EMB), and the iShares iBoxx $ High Yield Corp Bd ETF (HYG). The firm increased its positions in these assets nearly 5.8%, 2.6%, 0.90%, 0.7%, and 0.60%, respectively, in 3Q17.

According to the institutional ownership report, Bridgewater Associates was the seventh largest investor in GLD with 3.8 million shares in 3Q17. Similarly, Bridgewater Associates was the sixth largest investor in IEMG with 24.7 million shares in 3Q17.

Top sells

Bridgewater Associates reduced its position in the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY), the iShares MSCI South Korea Capped ETF (EWY), Southwestern Energy Company (SWN), Chesapeake Energy Corporation (CHK), and Intel Corporation (INTC) in 3Q17 by 5.3%, 0.97%, 0.29%, 0.23%, and 0.20%, respectively, in 3Q17.
