Differentiating features of new releases

Previously, we discussed Symantec’s (SYMC) Integrated Cyber Defense Platform. It is hoped that newly released SEP (Symantec Endpoint Protection) 14.1, SEP Mobile, and ATP (Advanced Threat Protection) 3.0 will help the company deliver defense across traditional and modern endpoints. Let’s look at what gives these new releases an edge over peer offerings.

According to eWEEK, Symantec’s head of product marketing for enterprise security products, Sri Sundaralingam, stated that “deception technology is in-house innovation based on Symantec’s 15 plus years of endpoint security expertise,” adding that “with deception technology on the endpoint, customers can deploy an additional tool or layer of security to detect stealthy attacks.”

In its fiscal 2Q18 earnings release, Symantec stated that more than one-third of its endpoint customer base runs SEP 14, highlighting the offering’s increased traction. It is also expected to enhance renewal rates. Its ATP offering now has ~7 million seats and “has seen strong growth of 3x from a year ago.”

The Skycure acquisition enhanced Symantec’s prospects in the prediction, detection, and prevention of malware and other attacks, leading to the formation of SEP Mobile. SEP Mobile enables customers to shield corporate devices from advanced threats across Google’s (GOOG) Android, Apple’s (AAPL) iOS, and Microsoft’s (MSFT) Windows. Leader in the mobile threat management space

In mid-November, SEP Mobile was ranked as an MTM (mobile threat management) leader in IDC’s MarketScape report. According to a Symantec press release, IDC stated that “Symantec Endpoint Protection Mobile will gain from Symantec’s cloud and threat intelligence offerings as well as the company’s existing customer base and sales structure. Customers looking for a complete solution that will allow for integration into their existing systems will benefit from adding SEP Mobile’s MTM product to their mix.”
