The short interest ratio in Chesapeake Energy (CHK) stock was ~19.9% on October 30, 2017. In January 2017, the short interest ratio in Chesapeake Energy stock was ~12%.

As you can see in the above chart, the short interest ratio in Chesapeake Energy stock has risen significantly since the beginning of 2017. The rising short interest in the stock indicates rising bearish sentiment.

Chesapeake Energy’s short interest has fallen from a peak of 22.85% in July 2017. On September 30, the short interest in Chesapeake Energy stock was 21.5%. Since then, the short interest has fallen even more.

The falling short interest indicates that at least some investors have cut their negative bets on the stock and don’t see an ongoing downside in the stock anymore.

Short interest movements 

Since the beginning of the year, the short interest in Chesapeake Energy stock mainly moved in the opposite direction with respect to its stock price. Chesapeake Energy stock has fallen from $6.92 at the beginning of the year to $3.84 as of October 30, 2017.
