What Analysts Expect from Ericsson in 3Q17



Revenue of $5.6 billion in 3Q17

Analysts expect Ericsson (ERIC), the European-based (EFA) telecom (telecommunications) equipment firm, to post revenue of $5.6 billion in 3Q17. Analysts have a high revenue estimate of $5.9 billion and a low estimate of $5.3 billion in 3Q17, which ended in September 2017. If Ericsson meets analysts’ average revenue estimate of $5.6 billion, it will mean a YoY (year-over-year) fall of 6.0% compared to $6.0 billion in 3Q16.

Analysts expect non-GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) EPS (earnings per share) of -$0.01 with a high EPS estimate of $0.05 and a low estimate of -$0.05 in 3Q17. In 3Q16, Ericsson posted EPS of $0.04. Ericsson will be announcing its 2Q17 results on October 18, 2017.

Ericsson has met analysts’ EPS estimates in two of the last four quarters. Its EPS was $0.02 in 2Q17, which was 60.0% below analysts’ estimate of $0.05. Its EPS was $0.04 in 3Q16, which was 33.0% below analysts’ estimate of $0.06.

Ericsson’s revenue fell 8% YoY in 2Q17

Ericsson’s revenue in 2Q17 fell 8.0% YoY and 13.0% on a constant currency basis. During its 2Q17 earnings call, CEO (chief executive officer) Börje Ekholm said, “We are not satisfied with our underlying performance with continued declining sales and increasing losses in the quarter. Execution of our focused business strategy is gaining traction.”
