Chesapeake Energy’s revenue trends

Chesapeake Energy’s (CHK) 1Q17 revenue rose ~41% YoY (year-over-year). In comparison, its YoY revenue growth was approximately -39.3% in 1Q16 and -50.4% in 4Q16.

Since 1Q15, Chesapeake Energy’s YoY revenue growth has been negative every quarter on a YoY basis. However, the company reported positive YoY revenue growth in 1Q17. Investors will watch to see if the trend holds in the upcoming quarters.

In comparison, upstream peers EQT (EQT) and Noble Energy (NBL) saw 1Q17 revenue changes of 65% and 43%, respectively. These companies make up 1% of the iShares US Oil & Gas Exploration & Production ETF (IEO).

Chesapeake Energy’s 1Q17 net profit margin was 2.7%. In comparison, its net profit margin was -57% in 1Q16 and -48% in 4Q16.
