On July 31, 2017, the short interest ratio (or short interest as a percentage of float) for Chesapeake Energy (CHK) stock was ~23%. In January 2017, the short interest ratio for CHK stock was ~12%.

As we can see in the graph above, Chesapeake Energy’s short interest ratio and its stock price have mostly moved in opposite directions this year. While CHK’s short interest ratio has risen significantly since the start of the year, its stock price has fallen similarly.

CHK’s stock price on January 3, 2017, was $6.92. On July 28, 2017, it was $4.96.

In comparison, CHK’s peers EQT (EQT) and Noble Energy (NBL) have short interest ratios of ~15.3% and ~2.9%, respectively.
