
D, DUK, and NEE: Which Utility Returned the Most?

Dominion Resources (D) returned 10% in the last year, outperforming many of its peer utilities. NextEra Energy’s (NEE) total returns came in at 15%.
Total return is a more precise way of analyzing utilities’ performance, as it considers stock appreciation and dividends as well.
In the last year, Duke Energy (DUK) has returned 8% while the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLU) returned 13%. Southern Company (SO) returned 5%.
