Concho Resources’ Revenue Growth Shows Improvement

Concho Resources’ revenue trends

Concho Resources’ (CXO) 4Q16 revenue rose ~35% YoY (year-over-year). In comparison, its YoY revenue growth was -34.0% in 4Q15 and -7.0% in 3Q16.

The above graph shows that CXO’s YoY revenue growth had been negative since 4Q14. However, in 4Q16, its YoY revenue growth was positive for the first time in nine quarters.

The impact of higher energy prices

Higher realized energy prices (USO) (UNG) have pulled up the revenues of several upstream companies, in turn affecting their earnings. CXO’s peers Anadarko Petroleum (APC) and Noble Energy (NBL) reported revenue rises of 24.7% and 17% YoY, respectively, in 4Q16.
