Amazon dominated the 2016 holiday season
The holiday season is considered the best period for retailers. Preliminary results from research company Slice Intelligence indicate that Amazon (AMZN) dominated the holiday season in 2016.
Amazon beat its expectations
Amazon’s domination of the US e-commerce market means that its upcoming 4Q16 earnings results could surprise investors and analysts. Amazon’s stock has gained quickly in the last year, rising 37%, and it could grow even further if it manages to beat expectations. In 3Q16, Amazon managed to grow its revenue by 29% year-over-year. This growth was above the company’s initial mid-point expectation of 22%–32%.
In 3Q16, the main trigger for revenue growth was Prime Day, which took place in July last year. For a day, Amazon offered Lightning Deals to its Prime members. In 4Q16, the growth trigger will be holiday sales.
