What Do Analysts Expect from BlackBerry in Fiscal 3Q17?

BlackBerry (BBRY) will announce its fiscal 3Q17 earnings on December 16, 2016. Analysts estimate that the company will post revenues of ~$331.9 million for the quarter ended November 2016, with a low estimate of ~$311.5 million and a high estimate of ~$347 million.

The company’s EPS (earnings per share) is estimated to be -$0.01, with a high estimate of $0.04 and a low estimate of -$0.03. If BlackBerry meets the analysts’ revenue estimates of $331.92 million, it will mean a YoY (year-over-year) fall of 39.4% from fiscal 3Q16.

BlackBerry beat analyst estimates for EPS in fiscal 3Q16 by 78.6% when it announced EPS of -$0.03. BlackBerry also beat the analysts’ EPS estimate in fiscal 4Q16, fiscal 1Q17, and fiscal 2Q17.

BlackBerry has a market cap of $4 billion. By comparison, peer tech (QQQ) companies International Game Tech (IGT), IBM (IBM), and Cisco (CSCO) have market caps of $4.9 billion, $152 billion, and $147 billion, respectively.

How did BlackBerry perform in fiscal 2Q17?

In September 2016, BlackBerry announced its fiscal 2Q17 results and reported non-GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) revenue of $352 million and GAAP revenue of $334 million. Its GAAP revenue fell 31% YoY (year-over-year) in fiscal 2Q17 from $491 million in fiscal 2Q16. BlackBerry achieved break-even non-GAAP EPS (earnings per share) and a GAAP EPS loss of $0.71 in fiscal 2Q17.
