CONSOL Energy’s 3Q16 cash flow
For 3Q16, CONSOL Energy (CNX) reported cash flows of $0.71 per share, which is higher by ~48% when compared with 3Q15.
As seen in the above chart, CONSOL Energy’s cash flows dropped sharply in 4Q14, mainly due to lower realized crude oil (USO) and natural gas (UNG) prices. In 2015, CONSOL Energy reported lower cash flows when compared with preceding years. In 3Q15, CONSOL Energy reported the lowest ever cash flow since 2012.
For 3Q16, CONSOL Energy reported positive free cash flow of ~$0.43 per share.

Due to the steep downward trend in energy prices, most S&P 500 (SPY) energy companies have reported lower year-over-year cash flows. Southwestern Energy (SWN), Murphy Oil (MUR), and Range Resources (RRC) reported $0.36 per share, $0.96 per share, and $0.18 per share, respectively, in cash flows in 3Q16.
