
US Utilities Returned 20% Last Year, and NextEra Tops

US utilities’ total return
Renewables giant NextEra Energy (NEE) has outperformed peers by a huge margin in the past year, returning nearly 33%, which includes both dividends and capital gain. The stock has contributed a ~20% gain since the beginning of the year.
US utilities (FXU)(XLU) have returned 24% in the same period. Remember, the total return metric considers stock appreciation and dividends paid during a particular period.
