Almost 99% of Oasis Petroleum’s (OAS) floating shares are currently held by 316 institutional investors. The percentage of float held has remained mostly the same since 2Q16.

Since the end of 2Q16, the number of new institutional buyers of Oasis’s shares has remained unchanged. The number of sellers has declined from 83 to 82, while the number of sell-offs has remained the same since 2Q16.

By comparison, institutional investors own nearly 77% of Chesapeake Energy’s (CHK) float and 83% of Whiting Petroleum’s (WLL) float. Notably, these companies make up 5.7% of the SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production ETF (XOP).
