Cimarex Energy’s (XEC) current implied volatility is ~36.9%, ~2.7% higher than its 15-day average of 35.9%. As we note in the image below, Cimarex Energy’s implied volatility has fallen since the start of this year.

We also note that the periods where Cimarex Energy saw high volatility coincide with high volatility in energy prices (USO)(UNG). With improved commodity prices since the beginning of this year, Cimarex Energy’s volatility has also fallen drastically.

Cimarex Energy’s peers Anadarko Petroleum (APC), Continental Resources (CLR), and Apache (APA) have implied volatility of ~37.1%, ~37.0%, and 51%, respectively.
