Cabot Oil and Gas’s (COG) current implied volatility is ~29.6%, ~8.3% lower than its 15-day average of 32.3%. As we note in the image below, Cabot Oil and Gas’s implied volatility has fallen since the start of this year.

We also note that the periods where Cabot saw high volatility coincide with high volatility in energy prices (USO)(UNG). With improved commodity prices since the beginning of this year, Cabot Oil and Gas’s volatility has also fallen drastically.

Cabot Oil and Gas’s peers Rice Energy (RICE) and Antero Resources (AR) have implied volatilities of 46% and 42%, respectively. These companies make up 5.9% of the SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production ETF (XOP).
