Where Does SU’s Implied Volatility Stand ahead of Its Earnings?

Suncor Energy’s (SU) implied volatility currently stands at 28.1. Since February 11, 2016, SU’s implied volatility has fallen by 46%.

During the same period, SU’s stock price rose by 34%. Usually, when market sentiments toward a stock are bullish, its implied volatility falls, and vice versa.

Peers implied volatility

SU’s peers ExxonMobil (XOM) has the lowest implied volatility, standing at 14.8. On the other hand, Petrobras (PBR) has the highest implied volatility, standing at 62.4.

Statoil (STO), PetroChina (PTR), and YPF (YPF) have higher implied volatility ratings than SU. The iShares Russell 1000 Value ETF (IWD) has ~13% exposure to energy sector stocks.
