More about Roper’s Industrial Technology segment
Roper Technologies’ (ROP) Industrial Technology segment has long lead times and provides highly engineered custom-configured products. These products require extensive testing and superior project management skills. Roper’s products and services are used by companies that operate in the oil and gas, power generation, chemical, and water management industries, among others.
The industrial (XLI) product market is highly fragmented with significant competition, but there are a few large companies in the industry that operate globally. ROP’s management believes that the company’s competitive advantage lies in its vast array of pumps for the chemical industry.
Some of the largest industrial technology industry players include ITT Industries (ITT), KSB, and Sulzer Pumps. Other competitors include SPX FLOW (FLOW), AES Corporation (AES), and Emcor Group (EME).
Global volatility has affected companies across many sectors. Cameron International (CAM), Emerson Electric Company (EMR), and Pentair (PNR) are some of ROP’s peers with wide ranges of flow control equipment. However, ROP can’t be strictly compared to any other company due to its diverse product portfolios in various sectors.
Cameron’s, Emerson Electric’s, and Pentair’s revenues fell by 15.1% 9.1%, and 8.4%, respectively, in 2015 compared to 2014. Cameron’s, Emerson Electric’s, and Pentair’s net profits also fell by 11.7%, 14.6%, and 16.5%, respectively, in 2015 compared to 2014.
