Xcel Energy: Net plant by function

Xcel Energy’s (XEL) major portion of its net plant consists of transmission infrastructure. Its generation also forms a significant part of its net plant. The functional allocation of net plant is representative of the functional allocation of the rate base. Net plant represents gross plant minus accumulated depreciation.

It generates nearly 50% of its power using coal (KOL), which may concern investors if the Clean Power Plan is implemented. Its peers Duke Energy (DUK) and DTE Energy (DTE) also have coal-dominated generation mixes.
