NiSource’s capital investments
Following the spin-off of its pipeline business, NiSource’s (NI) utility rate base is valued at nearly $8 billion. The company is targeting a $10 billion rate base, combining gas (UNG) and electric infrastructure through active investments over the next several years.
NiSource is expected to invest $1.4 billion on its gas distribution and electric infrastructures in 2016.
Rate base is the value of the property on which a utility (VPU) is allowed to earn a specific rate of return according to the rules set by regulators.
