Hess’s oil production

Crude oil represented 59% of Hess Corporation’s (HES) total production in 1Q16. Crude oil’s share as a percentage of Hess’s total production was mostly steady between 1Q14 and 4Q14, after which it mostly fell in the period between 1Q15 and 1Q16.

The periods in which the company’s oil production was lower coincided with the periods in which oil prices (USO) were experiencing multiyear lows.

While oil’s share in total production has fallen since 1Q14, total production has increased since 1Q14.

Cimarex Energy (XEC) has also seen its oil production percentage fall since 1Q14, as has Continental Resources (CLR). Both HES and XEC make up 2.3% of the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE).
