In this part, we’ll see the trends of the iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF’s (IBB) moving averages. As of June 13, 2016, 33% of IBB’s stocks were trading above their 20-day moving averages, 43% were trading above their 50-day moving averages, and 52% were trading above their 100-day moving averages. This is a drastic fall compared to the moving averages as of June 6, 2016. That day, 87% of IBB’s stocks were trading above their 20-day moving averages, 71% were trading above their 50-day moving averages, and 74% were trading above their 100-day moving averages.

The above graph shows the percentage of IBB’s holdings that were trading at various moving averages on June 13, 2016. Of IBB’s 189 stocks, 62 were trading above their 20-day moving averages, 81 were trading above their 50-day moving averages, and 97 were trading above their 100-day moving averages.

What’s IBB’s moving average trend?

On June 13, 2016, IBB closed at $264.43. It was trading below its 20-day, 50-day, and 100-day moving averages. As of that day, IBB’s 20-day moving average was $272.40. On June 6, 2016, its 20-day moving average was $267.10. This indicates a downward trend.

Stocks trading above the moving averages

Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX), Grifols (GRFS), Acadia Pharmaceuticals (ACAD), and Bio-Techne (TECH) are a few of IBB’s 62 stocks that are trading above their 20-day moving averages as of June 13, 2016. Let’s also see how these stocks are trending at their 20-day and 100-day moving averages compared to the average on June 6, 2016.

IBB stocks trading above their 20-day moving averages include:

  • VertexPharmaceuticals – $86.90 as of June 6 and $89.50 as of June 13, 2016
  • Grifols – $15.50 as of June 6 and $16.10 as of June 13
  • Acadia Pharmaceuticals – $32.50 as of June 6 and $36 as of June 13
  • Bio-Techne – $105.20 as of June 6 and $108.7 as of June 13

All four stocks showed an upward trend.

IBB stocks trading above their 100-day moving averages include:

  • VertexPharmaceuticals – $86.70 as of June 6 and $86.40 as of June 13
  • Grifols – $15.30 as of June 6 and $15.40 as of June 13
  • Acadia Pharmaceuticals – $26 as of June 6 and $27 as of June 13
  • Bio-Techne – $93.10 as of June 6 and $94.90 as of June 13

Except Vertex Pharmaceuticals, all of the other three stocks are showing an upward trend.
