Anadarko’s 1Q16 earnings
Anadarko Petroleum (APC) reported its 1Q16 earnings on May 2, 2016, after the markets closed. The company announced adjusted EPS (earnings per share) of -$1.12. Wall Street analysts’ consensus estimate for EPS was -$1.16.
Peers Apache (APA) and Concho Resources (CXO) haven’t announced their 1Q16 earnings yet. Analysts expect the EPS for these companies to come in at about -$0.89 and $0.01, respectively. Watch this space for earnings coverage on these companies. Meanwhile, Hess (HES) reported 1Q16 EPS of -$1.72, versus estimates of -$1.83 EPS.
The above companies make up ~8.2% of the SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production ETF (XOP). Anadarko Petroleum is also a component of the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE). The XLE ETF invests ~2.6% of its portfolio in the company.
Anadarko’s earnings and revenue analysis
Anadarko Petroleum reported an adjusted net loss of $569 million in 1Q16. Adjusted net loss in the corresponding period in 2015 was $365 million. In 4Q15, Anadarko had reported an adjusted net loss of $296 million.
Anadarko’s 1Q16 revenue was $1.7 billion, against the estimate of $1.8 billion. Revenue in 1Q15 was ~$2.7 billion, against $2.1 billion in 4Q15. As we can see in the above graph, Anadarko’s earnings and revenues were mostly in line with expectations.
Anadarko’s fiscal 2015 earnings and revenue recap
For fiscal 2015, APC reported adjusted EPS of $2, compared with estimates of about -$2.50. In fiscal 2014, EPS stood at $5.60. Fiscal 2015 revenue was reported to be $9.8 billion, whereas revenue in 2014 was $16.3 billion.
